RIYADH, Oct 7: Saudi Arabia has implemented new regulations for airline passengers carrying opiate-based medications prescribed for medical purposes, according to Saudi News 50. Under the updated rules, travellers entering or leaving the Kingdom must obtain a special permit before carrying such medicines on board aircraft.
Authorities explained that the measure aims to enhance passenger safety, prevent misuse of controlled substances, and simplify customs procedures at Saudi airports. The relevant government agencies will oversee the approval process, which requires valid medical documentation and an application to be filed in advance.
Officials emphasized that the regulation does not prohibit patients from carrying their prescribed medications but ensures that their transport complies with international standards. Travellers are encouraged to apply for permits well in advance to avoid any disruptions to their travel plans.
