New Rules Allow 120 Days to Register Newborns Born in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 11: Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI), has issued a ministerial decision amending Decision No. (2/89) concerning registration deadlines in the Civil Information System.

According to the decision, published in today’s Sunday edition of the Official Gazette Kuwait Alyoum, Paragraph (b) of Article (2), referred to in Article (1) of Decision No. (2/89) amending Decision No. (5/88), has been revised to read as follows: 

(b) One hundred and twenty days from the date of birth for a child born inside Kuwait.

The first paragraph, Clause (a), of the same article specifies the registration deadlines in the Civil Information System as follows:
– Thirty days from the date of return to the country for Kuwaiti citizens;
– Thirty days from the date of arrival in Kuwait for citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries; and
– Thirty days from the date of obtaining residency for expats
