New Kuwait Traffic Rules: Impoundment for Reckless Driving and Obstruction

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 22: The General Department of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior has announced the implementation of stricter measures against serious traffic violations, including the impoundment of vehicles for up to two months.

According to Administrative Circular No. (9 of 2025), issued by the Office of the Director General for Traffic and Licensing, the new procedures are part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and enforce traffic laws more firmly.

Under the new directive, vehicles will be impounded for two months in the following cases:

  • Driving recklessly or dangerously.
  • Deliberately obstructing traffic on roads.
  • Deliberately obstructing traffic on public roads.
  • Parking in prohibited areas.

The circular emphasizes that all assistant directors, department heads, and traffic officers are required to fully implement these procedures and ensure strict adherence to them. The directive also states that any failure to adhere to the instructions will result in accountability measures against those responsible.

The Ministry affirmed that these steps aim to deter repeated violations, maintain traffic order, and protect the safety of road users nationwide.
