New Kuwait Rules for Used Car Imports

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 24: Minister of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Public Authority for Industry (PAI) Khalifa Al-Ajil approved the new regulations for imported used vehicles and motorcycles, including the cancellation of the previous Kuwaiti technical regulations and standards. The new regulations will take effect six months after publication in the official gazette, ‘Kuwait Al- Youm’, on Sunday. Al-Ajil also issued Ministerial Decision No. 53/2025 on the application of the Gulf Standard for Terrestrial Audio Broadcasting Receivers (T-DAB) as a mandatory Kuwaiti technical regulation.

The decision stipulates the implementation of the technical requirements outlined in the Gulf Standard for Radio Broadcast Receivers, as adopted in Ministerial Resolution No. 12/2023, for vehicles starting with models 2027 onwards. In another development, the acting director general of PAI signed seven administrative decisions -- five on imposing administrative penalties and two on closing industrial plots after the discovery of several violations committed by the owners. These violations include renting the plots to others in violation of the terms of the contract, using the plot for an unlicensed activity, operating administrative offices without a license, and failing to pay debts to the Authority. The Authority affirmed that these measures are part of its efforts to tighten control over industrial plots, ensure compliance with the terms of contracts and regulations, and organize industrial activity in a way that achieves the goals of industrial development in the country.
