KUWAIT CITY, July 3: According to informed sources, the concerned government agencies are looking into establishing a new “Friday Market” in Jahra Governorate, but it will be designed and operated under a modern theme, and as per the latest regulations, follow-up and control mechanisms, reports Al-Rai daily. The Kuwait Municipality began acquiring the opinions of the relevant regulatory authorities in an effort to establish a different model for the current Friday Market. Among the suggestions is that no sales process will be completed without invoices.
This is aimed to ensure the safety of purchase deals, and to ensure the consumer’s rights are protected. This involves the right to return a commodity in case the customer decides to return it within the period specified by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, reduce cash purchases, rely on electronic payment devices at a high rate, and use screens and all modern technologies for sales and display. The sources said, “The proposals on the table include issuing licenses to the beneficiaries, which will be done electronically, and organizing auctions through licensed authorities.
It was proposed to form a governmental committee that includes representatives from the Kuwait Municipality, the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Kuwait Fire Service Directorate, and the Public Authority for Manpower in order to organize work mechanisms and manage this market. Preparations are in motion for contracting with a consultancy office to study the project and the projected cost”.
