KUWAIT CITY, Dec 11: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) intends to establish a new department in the commercial control and consumer protection sector, specialized in following up on electronics stores, as the new year starts, reports Al-Anba daily. The sources added that this section will be concerned with receiving consumer complaints, and will also be concerned with licenses related to electronics stores and advertisements for offers and discounts that are published on social media. The sources pointed out that the importance of this new section lies in the possibility of the Ministry’s commercial inspector visiting the store or the owners of these stores that sell their products via social media in the event consumers file a complaint to the Ministry.

The sources pointed out that the Ministry will establish this new section in cooperation with Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA), especially since there is an agreement and memorandum of understanding concluded between the Ministry and CITRA regarding the provision of services for blocking and unblocking electronic content, which aims to clarify the nature, scope and requirements of the services provided by the Authority related to blocking or unblocking electronic content, lifting the block on social media accounts, websites and electronic applications, determining the expected level of service for each category. The sources clarified the ministry’s responsibilities and the requirements for the procedures followed when requesting to block or lift the block on electronic content, and documenting the responsibilities of all parties participating in the agreement.
