New advertising regulations aim to preserve landscape, prevent 'visual' pollution in Kuwait
The revised advertising rules set clear controls on ad size and type to ensure traffic safety and prevent visual pollution in Kuwait.

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 2: The Legal and Financial Committee of the Municipal Council on Monday recommended approving amendments to advertising regulations aimed at preserving the urban landscape and preventing visual pollution.

The meeting, chaired by committee member Fahd Al-Abduljader, approved the draft amendment to Ministerial Resolution No. 599 of 2023. The updated regulations include organizing advertising sites, setting clear controls on the size and type of advertisements to ensure traffic safety, strengthening oversight through transparent licensing, maximizing financial returns for the municipality, and standardizing procedures for easier compliance by investors and companies.

Al-Abduljader said the committee rejected Kuwait University’s request for exemption from item seven of Article One of Ministerial Resolution No. 206 of 2009, related to the medical campus project in Sabah Al-Salem University City, emphasizing adherence to established requirements and regulations.

He added that the request to register plots owned by the General Investment Authority in the Al-Aqilah area would be referred to the executive body for a technical opinion before completing procedures in line with approved regulations.

Al-Abduljader stressed that the committee’s decisions aim to promote transparency, support urban development, and ensure compliance with laws and regulations in the public interest.

The committee also approved a proposal by Al-Abduljader to amend certain fees under the advertising regulations.
