CALIFORNIA, Jan 30, (Agencies): Neuralink has achieved a groundbreaking milestone with its first successful human implantation, showcasing promising neuron spike detection capabilities.

The initial users of the Telepathy technology will be individuals who have experienced limb loss. Other companies, such as Synchron, Precision Neuroscience, Paradromics, and Blackrock Neurotech, also possess similar capabilities. The FDA has granted clearance for Neuralink's human trial.

The billionaire entrepreneur, Elon Musk, announced on Platform X that the initial surgery proceeded smoothly, and the patient is on the path to a successful recovery. While Musk did not disclose specific details about the recipient or the functionality of the implant, he expressed optimism about the promising results in detecting neuron spikes.

The number of trial participants remains uncertain, but the Neuralink website indicates that the first-in-human clinical trials are actively recruiting. The implants utilize "ultra-fine" threads to efficiently transmit signals within participants' brains.

Elon Musk envisions ambitious applications for Neuralink, aiming for swift surgical insertions of chip devices to address conditions such as obesity, autism, depression, and schizophrenia. Musk shared insights on Telepathy, Neuralink's inaugural product, emphasizing its capability to enable control of devices like phones or computers through mere thought. The initial beneficiaries of this technology will be individuals who have lost the use of their limbs. (Photo credit ET)
