The Netherlands has chosen to pay tribute to a football icon by featuring his iconic goal on a distinctive coin intended for circulation within the country.
As per an announcement from the Dutch Ministry of the Treasury, the special coin dedicated to the legendary Dennis Bergkamp will carry a denomination of 8 euros in the Netherlands.
This unique currency will showcase Bergkamp's renowned goal for the Netherlands during the quarter-finals of the 1998 World Cup against Argentina. The goal, executed with exceptional skill, proved to be decisive, leading to the elimination of Argentina and propelling the Netherlands into the semi-finals of the World Cup in France.
The selection of 8 euros as the coin's value serves as a tribute to Bergkamp's iconic number 8 jersey, which he wore during his illustrious tenure with the Dutch national team.
