Netanyahu tells Iranians ‘something incredible’ will happen, predicts regime change

UNITED NATIONS, Sept 24: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Iranians on Thursday that “the power of the people will overcome the people in power,” predicting political change in Iran during his address to the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

“I want to give you the good news,” Netanyahu said. “It’s only a matter of time before something incredible happens in Iran. The power of the people will overcome the people in power.” He predicted that the Iranian government would eventually fall, saying the Iranian people could become free.

Netanyahu also criticized delegates who walked out of the General Assembly chamber when he began speaking. He accused his critics of remaining silent over what he described as Iran’s crackdown on dissent and the persecution of Christians in Iran and elsewhere in the Middle East.

The Israeli prime minister also brought a Starlink communications device to the podium, saying Tehran fears its citizens gaining access to uncensored information. He said the technology could allow people to access information and exercise freedom of thought and speech.

“This is a communications device, Starlink, that allows people to access truth, to exercise choice, to exercise freedom of thought and freedom of speech,” Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu accused the Iranian government of spending heavily to restrict internet access and said he would leave the Starlink device with the president of the General Assembly so it could be passed to Iran’s delegation.

“So when they inevitably defect, they too will be able to freely tell their story on social media,” he said.

The speech came amid heightened tensions between Israel, the United States and Iran. US President Donald Trump had also warned during his UN address earlier this week that the United States could take further military action against Iran if no peace agreement is reached.

Iranian officials, meanwhile, have said Tehran is prepared to pursue diplomacy and has indicated that it could reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the United States reduces military pressure and lifts its blockade of Iranian ports
