TEL AVIV, Apr 9: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that he has instructed his cabinet to begin talks with Lebanon “as soon as possible,” following repeated requests from Beirut for direct negotiations.
According to Netanyahu, the proposed discussions will center on the disarmament of Hezbollah and efforts to establish a framework for peaceful relations between the two countries. He also welcomed what he described as Lebanon’s growing willingness to move toward demilitarization.
However, Axios reported, citing an Israeli official, that no ceasefire currently exists between Israel and Lebanon, despite expectations of talks in the coming days.
