JERUSALEM, (AP) Mar 22: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that recent missile attacks on Israeli cities, including areas near Jerusalem’s holy sites, as well as strikes targeting a U.K. military base in the Indian Ocean, demonstrate that Iran poses a serious threat to global security.
Speaking in the southern town of Arad, which was struck by an Iranian missile injuring dozens of residents, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel and the United States are acting to protect the interests of the entire world.
“It’s time to see the leaders of the rest of the countries join us,” he told foreign journalists, adding that some nations are “beginning to move in that direction,” though he said broader international action is needed.
The warnings come as U.S. President Donald Trump threatened that Washington would “obliterate” Iran’s power plants if Tehran does not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. The narrow waterway, linking the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean, is a critical route for global energy supplies.
On an average day, about one-fifth of the world’s oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. With the conflict effectively closing the passage, more than 90% of crude and refined products from the region are disrupted, according to the International Energy Agency, raising concerns over a global energy crisis.
Netanyahu’s comments underscore mounting international tensions as Iran’s military actions extend far beyond the immediate region, affecting both global trade and security.
