NCCAL kick-starts receiving requests, theatrical scripts; Theater Festival Dec 1 to 10

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 3: The National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters announced Tuesday, the start of receiving applications and theatrical scripts for those wishing to participate in the 21st Kuwait Theater Festival, which will be held from December 1 to 10. The Assistant Secretary-General for the Culture Sector, the council’s official spokesman, Dr. Issa Al-Ansari, said in a press statement that the secretariat will start receiving requests from civil groups and theater production companies and institutions wishing to participate in the festival until the end of next September.

Al-Ansari added that requests and theatrical scripts participating in the festival will be received at the theater administration headquarters, stressing the need to adhere to the health precautionary requirements issued by the health authorities in the country. He explained that the selection of the teams participating in the festival will be made after reviewing and reading the texts by a specialized committee formed by the theater administration. Last month, winners of Kuwait’s honorary and encouragement awards hailed the country’s effort to encourage the creativity of artists and talented people. The annual honoring of talented Kuwaitis encourages them to exert more efforts to develop the cultural field, a number of winners told KUNA in separate statements, on the sidelines of the state’s awards 2020 ceremony held at Abdulhussain Abdulridha Theater. Winner of a musical award Yousef Al-Muhanna noted that the award encourages him to do better work in the future.

On his part, winner of plastic arts award artist Abdulredha Baqer expressed his joy over winning the prize, adding that he had taken part in different exhibitions in Kuwait and abroad. Moreover, Muthafar Rashid won a social studies award, while authors Abdullah Al-Busais and Abdulwahab Al-Hamady won literature awards. The awards were presented to the winners by Minister of Information and Culture And Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al- Mutairi. Since the honorary award was launched in 1999, 66 Kuwaiti figures have won it, while 201 others have won the state’s encouragement award since 1988. (KUNA)
