KUWAIT CITY, Jan 20: Security and traffic authorities recorded 27,969 traffic violations across the country over an eight-day period this month, following intensive field campaigns by the General Traffic Department and the General Department of Emergency Police.
Between January 11 and 17, emergency police carried out widespread security operations that led to the arrest of individuals wanted in drug-related cases, reckless drivers, residency law violators and persons sought by the judiciary, in addition to the impounding of vehicles and motorcycles. During this period, the General Directorate of Rescue recorded 2,316 traffic violations, conducted 1,154 security operations, arrested 32 residency violators, impounded six vehicles, detained four individuals without identification and seized nine vehicles wanted by the courts.
Authorities also provided assistance in 410 cases, broke up 11 fights, handled 141 traffic accidents, dealt with one hit-and-run case, and referred seven suspects to the General Directorate for Drug Control.
Meanwhile, statistics from the General Directorate of Traffic showed that between January 12 and 18, officers issued 25,653 traffic citations, referred 25 juveniles to the Public Prosecution, detained 45 violators, and arrested 58 individuals with expired residency permits. A total of 333 vehicles and 25 motorcycles were seized, 53 wanted persons were apprehended, 32 vehicles wanted by the judiciary were confiscated, and traffic officers dealt with 2,455 reports, including 178 accidents involving injuries and 1,200 minor collision cases.
