KUWAIT CITY, Feb 14, (KUNA): The third edition of Kuwait Sports Day kicked off on Saturday on the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Bridge, attracting around 21,000 participants in a lively celebration of sports, health, and community engagement.
Minister of State for Youth and Sports Affairs Dr. Tareq Al-Jalahma inaugurated the event, highlighting the growing public interest in physical activity and an active lifestyle across all age groups.
The day featured a variety of activities, including running, walking, and cycling races, alongside fitness challenges and recreational competitions designed for families and children. Musical performances and entertainment shows added a festive atmosphere to the celebration.
Organized by the Kuwait Sports for All Federation in partnership with government and private entities, the event was held under the patronage of the political leadership and with support from official sports, youth, and health authorities.
Kuwait Sports Day aligns with the Public Authority for Sport’s 2022–2028 strategy, which aims to promote sports for all, integrate physical activity into daily life, and enhance community engagement to improve public health and overall quality of life.
The event welcomed citizens, residents, families, youth, children, people with disabilities, government institutions, private organizations, sports clubs, federations, and volunteers, emphasizing inclusivity and nationwide participation. The day concluded with participants receiving commemorative medals, earning wide praise for both organization and sportsmanship.
Commenting on the event, Al-Jalahma said the strong turnout reflects the community’s increasing awareness of sports’ role in promoting health and quality of life.
Speaking after participating in the event, Al-Jalahma noted that Kuwait Sports Day coincides with the country’s national celebrations, representing social cohesion and solidarity. He also extended congratulations to the political leadership on the occasion.
The minister emphasized the ministry’s commitment to expanding and diversifying the event each year, encouraging all segments of society to adopt an active lifestyle. He praised the role of government bodies, private entities, volunteers, and participants, noting that teamwork is key to the event’s success. Al-Jalahma expressed hope that next year’s edition will be even more outstanding, meeting the aspirations of Kuwait’s leadership and society.
The Sports Village, a highlight of Kuwait Sports Day, created a vibrant and engaging atmosphere along the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Bridge, combining sports, recreation, and cultural experiences for visitors.
Interactive zones, cafes, and restaurants were spread throughout the area, offering a unique blend of activity, leisure, and social interaction. At the heart of the village, a traditional folkloric band performed patriotic songs that mixed national chants with the excitement of the sporting event, adding a cultural and heritage touch to the celebration.
The Sports Village provided a complete community experience, combining fitness, entertainment, and national pride. A fully equipped rest area ensured families and participants could enjoy the day comfortably and safely, creating a festive and inclusive environment for all.
