YANGON, Sept 17, (Xinhua): Myanmar's Union Election Commission (UEC) has invited both domestic and international observers to monitor the upcoming general election, the state-owned daily The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Wednesday. According to the UEC's announcement dated Sept. 16, domestic election observers may apply for observation permits at the Union Election Commission, as well as at the relevant region and state, district, and township election sub-commissions, from the day of the announcement until Dec 5, 2025.

The commission said domestic observers are required to follow the Code of Conduct for Observers, issued under Notification 682025, and adhere to procedures outlined in Notification 692025. These documents can be viewed and downloaded from the commission's official website, it said. In addition, the UEC announced that international observers will also be allowed to monitor the election.

Invitations will be extended directly to representatives of relevant countries and international organizations. Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, invitations will also be sent to foreign embassies, consulates, and permanent missions that maintain diplomatic relations with Myanmar, the report said. The country's multiparty democratic general election is scheduled to begin in phases on Dec 28, 2025, it said.
