NEW YORK, Nov 19: Elon Musk has responded — six days late — to Billie Eilish after the singer sharply criticized him for hoarding wealth during a global crisis, calling him a “pathetic pussy bitch coward.”
Late Monday, the Tesla CEO replied to a Nov. 13 post summarizing Eilish’s Instagram Stories, writing only: “She’s not the sharpest tool in the shed.”
Eilish had singled out Musk shortly after using her acceptance speech at the WSJ Innovator Awards to denounce billionaires for accumulating massive fortunes when “people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country.” Her comments came as Musk edges closer to becoming the world’s first trillionaire following an ambitious — critics say unrealistic — Tesla pay package that sharply boosted his potential net worth.
On Instagram, Eilish reposted a series of infographics from the activist group My Voice, My Choice, outlining ways Musk could redistribute extreme wealth. Though Musk has not reached the trillion-dollar threshold — Tesla would need to increase its market cap sixfold to $8.5 trillion — the posts highlighted feasible avenues of global impact for someone with his financial resources.
One graphic argued Musk could end world hunger within five years by allocating $40 billion annually through 2030. Another said he could provide universal access to safe, clean water for $140 billion per year for seven years. Musk’s brief reply suggested little appetite for the proposals.
At the Innovator Awards earlier this month, Eilish announced she would donate $11.5 million from her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour to charities and organizations. Addressing a room filled with wealthy attendees — including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whose net worth exceeds $225 billion — she asked: “There are a few people in here who have a lot more money than me. If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire?”
“We’re in a time right now when the world is really, really bad and really dark,” she added. “People need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country. I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things and maybe give it to some people who need it.”
While Musk was not present when those remarks were delivered, Eilish later underscored her stance online. Reposting My Voice, My Choice’s suggestions, she amplified their message, urging the tech billionaire to use his wealth for global good.
Two weeks after the awards ceremony, Musk’s response marks the first public exchange between the world’s richest man and the Grammy-winning artist, with both leaning into sharply contrasting visions for extreme wealth and responsibility.
