1 Billion 110 million KD fine with 7 yrs imprisonment

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 19: After a court ruling was issued in absentia to sentence an official from the Kuwait Municipality to seven-year imprisonment and fine him more than one billion and one hundred and ten million Kuwaiti dinars in the case of sand theft, the defendant was arrested after he returned to Kuwait with the aim of being arraigned before the court. The Court of Appeals decided to uphold the ruling issued against the second defendant, who is an expatriate, who was sentenced to seven-year imprisonment with hard labor, and fined one billion and 110 million Kuwaiti dinars, which is the largest fine in the history of the Kuwaiti judiciary, in the sand theft case.

The appeal filed by the first defendant, who objected to the ruling issued in absentia against him, was suspended. According to the case file, the supervisory teams from Jahra Municipality discovered that licenses were granted to private companies in three locations in Subbiyah and Salmi areas in violation of the regulations in force in the executive body. Also, records related to them were missing in the concerned department. Al-Seyassah Staff and Agencies
