PROSPECT HILL, N.C. , Aug 5: Multiple people were killed, and at least one person was injured in a mass shooting at a residence in Prospect Hill, North Carolina, on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The Caswell County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded shortly before 8 a.m. local time to reports of gunfire at a home on Brooks Road, where they found several victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One injured person was transported to Duke University Hospital, while multiple others were pronounced dead at the scene.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said the shooting occurred at around 8:30 a.m. and that state investigators joined local deputies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in the investigation.

Crime scene investigators are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses as authorities work to notify the victims' next of kin. Officials said there is no ongoing threat to the public, noting that the incident was confined to the property.

Authorities have not disclosed the number of fatalities or released information about a suspect or possible motive as the investigation continues.
