MP airs concern on 5G pricing

KUWAIT CITY, June 18: Speaker of Parliament Marzouq Al-Ghanim said the National Assembly office has agreed to schedule the discussions of the remaining state budgets and final accounts during the Parliament sessions on June 25 and June 26 while July 1 and July 2 have been earmarked to discuss the general financial state of the country and will also mark the closing session of the current legislative term.

The Speaker mentioned the National Assembly office will also look to hold special sessions to approve the pending bills. Eager to push parliamentary progress further before the end of term, 10 MPs have submitted a request to hold a special session on Sunday, June 23, to address the government employment policy.

The MPs believe the government approach to employment is unbalance and unfair to applicants and this was evidenced during the recent employment issue which came up at the Department of Fatwa and Legislations, and since this issue has an impact on the future of capable young adults, they have deemed it vital that its discussion occurs during this term, not the next.

In another development, considering the launch of the new 5G network, public opinion looks disturbed with the sign up prices. This prompted MP Riyadh Al-Adsani to call on the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) as well as the department of market competition to exercise their authority over the high prices, its unification and the service provided.

He pointed out the government retains the right to interfere with such matters within the confines of the law, citing how CITRA was successful in decreasing the prices of DSL sign ups in the past.
