Mother Retains Custody Of Kids, As Dad Is Alcoholic, Drug Addict

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 10: The Family Court of Appeals overturned a lower court's verdict dismissing a lawsuit seeking to revoke a father’s custody of his children, reinstating custody of the two children to their mother. The plaintiff, through her defense counsel Lawyer Inaam Haidar, proved the defendant’s unsuitability to care for the children, citing a video showing him using drugs and consuming alcohol with a friend inside the house in the children’s presence.

During her arguments, Lawyer Haidar explained that the father’s behavior contradicts the principles of custody, which prioritize proper care and upbringing. The best interests of the children require removing them from an environment that is unsuitable both educationally and morally. The court ruled to officially grant the mother custody of the two children, requiring the father to pay monthly child support for food and clothing, a monthly maid’s salary of KD 120, recruitment expenses of KD 1,500, KD 10,000 for a car purchase, KD 150 per month for a driver’s salary, and KD 5,000 for rent and furnishing expenses. The court also ordered the father to cover the actual legal fees for both levels of litigation.
