DUBAI, Dec 29: The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention has warned that an increase in mosquito density raises the risk of disease transmission, underscoring the importance of mosquito control as a key pillar of public health protection and efforts to maintain a healthy living environment across the country.

In an awareness message posted on its official X account on Sunday, the ministry cautioned that mosquito bites should not be underestimated and outlined several practical steps to alleviate symptoms and reduce the risk of complications.

The ministry advised residents to avoid scratching mosquito bites, apply an ice pack to the affected area for about 10 minutes to ease itching and redness, and use antihistamine or anti-itch creams in accordance with product instructions.

It also urged individuals to seek medical advice if unusual or worrying symptoms develop, such as fever, severe headaches, or persistent body aches, stressing the importance of early medical attention when symptoms go beyond mild irritation.

Beyond individual care, the ministry emphasized that prevention remains the most effective line of defence. It called on the public to help curb mosquito breeding by eliminating stagnant water and following recommended preventive measures, noting that community cooperation with relevant authorities is essential to reducing health risks posed by disease-carrying insects.
