RABAT, Jan 3: Moroccan police announced that they have seized 1,488 tons of cocaine hidden in banana boxes in the Tangier Med port in the north of the country.

The Moroccan News Agency quoted the Moroccan General Directorate of National Security as saying that this operation was carried out in coordination with Spanish security services within the framework of joint cooperation to combat international drug smuggling operations.

The news agency explained that this quantity of cocaine was seized inside a container that was on board a maritime transport ship flying the flag of a European country that departed from one of the ports of a country in South America, heading to one of the Turkish ports.

She added that the competent judicial authorities have begun research and investigation to uncover the people linked to the criminal network behind this specific operation and to determine its regional and international affiliations and intersections.
