RABAT, Dec 22: Morocco’s men’s national football team has risen to 11th place in the new FIFA world rankings released on Thursday. Morocco are amongst seven sides that shot up 10 places or more in 2022, according to FIFA, which said that the Atlas Lions’ rise saw them accumulate the highest points tally out of the seven. This is mainly due to reaching fourth at the recently-concluded FIFA Qatar World Cup, with four victories against heavyweights Belgium, Spain and Portugal, one draw to Croatia and two defeats in the semifinals against France, and against Croatia again in the third place playoff. Meanwhile, Brazil held on to top spot while World Cup champions Argentina rose to second as France leapfrogged Belgium to third. (KUNA)
