KUWAIT CITY, Jan 18: Colonel Saud Nassar Al-Khamsan, an officer at the General Administration of Correctional Institutions, was laid to rest at Sulaibikhat Cemetery on Sunday. First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef led the funeral procession, along with Undersecretary of the Interior Ministry Major General Abdul Wahab Al-Wahaib, in addition to a number of high-ranking security and military officials, as well as a large number of citizens, relatives and friends of the deceased. In a press statement issued Sunday evening, the ministry announced the death of Al-Khamsan.

It said “with hearts believing in the will and decree of Allah, the Ministry of Interior -- represented by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, Undersecretary of the ministry Major General Abdulwahab Al-Wahib, officers, non-commissioned officers, personnel, professionals and civilians -- mourns the passing of the late Colonel Saud Nassar Al-Khamsan, may Allah have mercy on him. We implore Allah Almighty to bestow on him His vast mercy, accept him to His spacious Paradise, and grant his family and loved ones patience and solace.”

Al-Khamsan died from injuries sustained in the recent fire at the General Directorate of Correctional Institutions building. The tragic fire incident occurred due to an electrical short circuit during maintenance works -- carpeting of a corridor and replacement of furniture in the administration building, which caused injuries to an officer, several soldiers and workers. Deeply saddened by the incident, the newspaper extends its sincere condolences to the Ministry of Interior and the family of the deceased, may Allah Almighty have mercy on him and grant him paradise.
