KUWAIT CITY, Nov 17: The Ministry of Interior has announced the deployment of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) cameras to enhance road safety and enforce traffic regulations across Kuwait, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Colonel Abdullah Bu Hassan, Assistant Director of the Traffic Awareness Department, revealed in an interview with Al-Akhbar Channel that approximately 252 AI-powered cameras are being installed on public roads throughout the country. These state-of-the-art devices are specifically designed to detect and record violations related to seat belt usage and mobile phone use while driving. “The installation process has already begun, and the cameras will become operational as soon as they are in place,” Bu Hassan stated. He emphasized that this technology represents a significant step forward in traffic law enforcement

In addition to the AI cameras, Bu Hassan highlighted the implementation of “Point to Point” cameras. These devices calculate the average speed of vehicles traveling between two fixed points, enabling authorities to identify and penalize drivers who exceed speed limits, even if they slow down near the camera locations. He indicated that the fine for a child occupying the front seat would be increased from 5 dinars to 50 dinars. This comprehensive approach to traffic monitoring aims to reduce dangerous driving behaviors and improve overall road safety in Kuwait. The new camera systems are part of a broader initiative by the Ministry of Interior to leverage technology in enforcing traffic laws and protecting road users.
