500 ‘illegal’ cases under investigation

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 15: The Ministry of Health is exerting tremendous efforts to recover funds which were unlawfully disbursed to some employees in the nursing sector over the past years, reports Al-Anba daily quoting informed sources. Sources revealed this file was opened in a health district some time ago when investigation committees were formed to look into the unlawful payment of allowances.

This led to the discovery of some cases, including an Arab nurse who escaped through the airport after being found to be involved in the anomalies during the evaluation in May.

Sources said the incident prompted the ministry to thoroughly review the nursing files, resulting in the discovery of similar cases during the search and audit process; indicating that allowances were unlawfully disbursed to some nursing staff. Sources affirmed the ministry is currently working hard to recover funds – estimated at more than KD100,000 – which were misappropriated at a certain hospital.

Sources pointed out the fact that some nurses received allowances unlawfully opened the ministry’s eyes; hence, it has started checking the files of other staff to ensure they are entitled to the allowances they are receiving. Sources said the ministry is investigating more than 500 cases of illegally obtained allowances.

Sources affirmed the ministry is now searching for all those behind the misappropriation of public money including those who facilitated the disbursement operations. Sources stressed all those responsible will not escape punishment, while praising the ministry’s role in uncovering these violations and returning the misappropriated funds to the State’s treasury.
