KUWAIT CITY, June 2: The Ministry of Health launched the Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Day on Monday at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital to mark World Multiple Sclerosis Day, aiming to raise awareness about the disease. A number of specialist physicians attended the event. In a press statement, Senior Neurologist Dr. Namariq Al-Jarki, a specialist in brain and nervous system diseases, especially in the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS), explained that multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease affecting the central nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerve. Several factors contribute to the disease, including genetic, environmental, and hereditary factors, as well as vitamin D deficiency, obesity, lack of exercise, and smoking. The disease’s symptoms include impaired movement and vision, balance problems, and bladder issues.
diagnosis helps reduce the risk of relapse and slows disease progression. Dr. Al-Jarki praised Kuwait’s role in supporting physical therapy centers and providing the latest treatments for managing multiple sclerosis. She also highlighted the Ministry of Health’s efforts in raising awareness about the disease. Meanwhile, Head of the Internal Medicine Department at Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital, Dr. Waleed Al-Dahi, explained in a press statement that multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease that leads to a variety of neurological symptoms throughout the body, affecting the limbs and bladder, and causing other health problems. MS treatments rely on immune modulation, which alters the body’s immune response to reduce attacks on the nerves and help patients move from an active neurological state to long-term remission with minimal symptoms.
