Ministry of Health enhances drug security with new digital system
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: The Ministry of Health has initiated a digital linkage project between hospitals and medical warehouses in Subhan, aiming to develop health services, enhance drug security, and streamline the supply chain for medicines and medical supplies.
The project, implemented through comprehensive technical and executive stages, began with the standardization of medicine and supply types between hospitals and warehouses. A timetable was then established for orders, specifying quantities and the procedures for delivery, examination, and distribution to hospital pharmacies.
The implementation phase started with determining the required quantities of medicines and supplies for each hospital. The initial orders were placed at Farwaniya Hospital, followed by Mubarak Hospital and Jahra Hospital. Preparations are underway to extend the linkage to additional hospitals.
The new electronic system simplifies the ordering process for medicines and medical supplies, with hospital orders typically ranging from 200 to 600 items per request. This system is designed to improve the management of dispensing and distribution, ensuring timely availability.
The Ministry has also initiated the linking of laboratory supplies to expedite laboratory work. This linkage is currently being tested between Subhan warehouses and Mubarak and Farwaniya hospitals. Additionally, an emergency orders policy has been activated to address urgent needs efficiently via telephone.
By reducing the documentary cycle through digital linkage, the Ministry aims to ensure the timely availability of medicines and medical supplies, thereby enhancing safe health practices and supporting drug safety for patients.
