KUWAIT CITY, May 24: The Ministry of Health affirmed that the blood donation campaign, which was launched on Monday at the Central Blood Bank with the aim of enhancing the strategic stock of blood in the country, witnessed a great turnout from citizens and residents, reports Al-Anba daily. The campaign is organized by Wafra Financial Services Company for the third year in a row with the cooperation of the Central Blood Bank. In a press statement issued on the sidelines of the campaign, Assistant Undersecretary for Allied Medical Services at the Ministry of Health Yaqoub Al-Tamar expressed his hope that this campaign would bear fruit in strengthening the strategic stock of blood in the country.

He affirmed the ministry’s constant interest in following up everything that is in the interest of the state and society by playing its role in providing all the necessary services and taking all steps necessary to develop the health system and services provided to citizens and residents. In a similar statement, Director of the Blood Transfusion Services Department Dr. Reem Al-Radwan said the blood and emergency stocks in Kuwait are “excellent” and sufficient to cover the needs of hospitals in the country.

She indicated that the blood donation campaigns will continue until July. Dr. Al-Radwan revealed that the ministry last week organized a number of donation campaigns with the cooperation of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior as well as a number of companies with the aim of strengthening the strategic stock and covering the need of blood in hospitals. She stressed the blood bank’s keenness to ensure the availability of blood for all citizens and residents in Kuwait.

In addition, the General Manager of Wafra Financial Services Company Wissam Al-Serafisaid the idea of the campaign emerged during the period of COVID-19 pandemic in light of the severe need for blood. He explained that the first campaign was organized after the end of the complete curfew. The previous campaigns succeeded in collecting about 300 bags of blood.
