KUWAIT CITY, Jul 6: The General Administration of Customs has foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of cigarettes through the Nuwaiseeb Port, seizing 481 cartons that had been expertly concealed inside a specially modified vehicle.

According to customs authorities, inspectors became suspicious of a vehicle attempting to leave the port and directed it for a comprehensive inspection in line with standard customs procedures. During the search, officers uncovered the hidden cigarettes concealed throughout multiple sections of the vehicle.

The contraband was found stashed inside the vehicle's interior trim, doors, rear seats, floor, roof, air-conditioning ducts, and even the spare tire compartment, indicating that the vehicle had been extensively modified to facilitate smuggling operations and evade detection.

Customs officials said the sophisticated concealment method reflected a well-planned attempt to transport the illegal shipment across the border without being detected.

The seizure forms part of the General Administration of Customs' ongoing campaign to tighten security at the country's border crossings and combat smuggling activities that threaten public safety and violate customs laws.

Authorities have initiated the necessary legal procedures, with a seizure report being prepared. The case has been referred to the General Department of Criminal Investigation to complete legal proceedings and identify all those involved in the smuggling operation.

The General Administration of Customs reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict oversight at all customs ports and continuing efforts to prevent the illegal movement of prohibited and undeclared goods into and out of Kuwait.
