KUWAIT CITY, July 6: Director of the Commercial Control Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Faisal Al-Ansari revealed that the inspection teams at the Sharq Market Center recently toured the market to monitor fish prices and submit reports on the latest prices to the ministry’s officials, affirming that the prices are reasonable and vary according to the size and types of local and imported fish.
In a statement to the newspaper, Al-Ansari revealed the department is coordinating with the Union of Imported Fish Offices to pump large quantities of fish in the coming period to cover the market’s need for fish and reduce prices to become more affordable for citizens and residents. He confirmed the inspection tour of the fish market at dawn on Friday to know the price updates in the upcoming auctions. He said the inspection teams monitored the prices of fish in Sharq Market and that they ranged from KD6 to KD125 per basket or single code (10 kilograms).
Regarding the prices of local fish baskets, Al-Ansari disclosed that the average price of the greasy grouper basket ranges from KD21 to KD35, the spotted grouper from KD10 to KD20, the silvery croaker from KD28 to JD41, the finned black sea bream from KD20 to KD50, the silver sea bream from KD 10 to KD18, and the four-threadfin from KD14 to KD33. For imported seafoods, the price of a basket of jumbo shrimp ranges from KD105 to KD125, silvery pomfret from KD45 to KD85, spotted grouper from KD22 to KD50, finned black sea bream from KD20 to KD35, and silver sea bream from KD13 to KD25.
