KUWAIT CITY, July 19: Director of the Sanitation and Road Works Department in the Kuwait Municipality branch in Jahra Governorate Fahad Al-Qarifa confirmed the removal of mobile butchers during Eid Al-Adha, while affirming the formation of teams tasked to prevent their spread, reports Al-Jarida daily. In a statement to the daily, Al-Qarifa affirmed that the Municipality monitors mobile butchers to prevent this phenomenon that surfaces every Eid Al-Adha holiday in light of the crowd in slaughterhouses in the governorates. He pointed out that mobile butchers fall under the category of street vendors, indicating the violation warrants a fine of up to KD700 and administrative deportation in accordance with the law. He explained that any butcher seen on the roads or within the regions will be referred to the Ministry of Interior which will take action as per the existing procedures.

He added the main goal is to intensify the punishment in order to curb the spread of diseases resulting from the use of unclean tools. He said the people are the first line of defense in preventing this phenomenon and the accompanying risk of transmission. He asserted the spread of corona exacerbated the danger posed by mobile butchers, especially if they are infected. Regarding the monitoring of butchers inside homes, Al-Qarifa pointed out that homes are private and the Municipality has no mechanism for monitoring butchers inside homes. He said slaughterhouses are safer for people’s health than bringing mobile laborers to homes, emphasizing the need for citizens and expatriates to cooperate with the authorities to reduce this phenomenon for everyone’s safety
