WASHINGTON, Nov 25, (Agencies): Following Nicaraguan beauty queen Sheynnis Palacios’ victory at the 72nd Miss Universe Competition in El Salvador, the Nicaraguan government has taken an unusual step by banning the national director of Miss Universe Nicaragua, Karen Celeberrti, from entering the country.

Reports indicate that upon returning from Mexico, Karen and her daughter were detained at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua. Subsequently, they were sent back to Mexico by the Directorate of Migration and Foreigners Affairs in Nicaragua. The ban is reportedly linked to activities related to Miss Universe 2023.

This decision casts doubt on the possibility of any homecoming celebrations for Sheynnis in Nicaragua, as her connection to Karen is a significant factor. Sheynnis, groomed by the Miss Universe Nicaragua Organization, has flown to New York City to fulfill her one-year reign.

Karen, a finalist in Miss Nicaragua in 1991, has served as the national director of Miss Universe Nicaragua since 2001. The move by the Nicaraguan government comes amid suspicions that Sheynnis’s entourage may be opposed to the government.

Unverified reports suggest that authorities in Nicaragua also obstructed two visual artists from creating a mural in Sheynnis’s honor. The situation adds an unexpected political dimension to the celebrations surrounding Sheynnis Palacios’s Miss Universe triumph.
