KUWAIT CITY, Feb 15: The Toyo Golf Tournament was organized on Friday, 13th Feb 2026 at the Sahara Golf Club. It was the 41st year of this prestigious event, which started in 1983 and since then has been held each year with the exception of 1991 and the pandemic years. Held in February each year to commemorate the National & Liberation Days, the trophy is appropriately called the Liberation Cup.

The tournament is quite popular among golf enthusiasts, as participation is not just limited to Sahara Club members but is open to golfers from all over. The game is played in the standard ‘Stableford’ format, which, together with a shotgun start, allows for relatively speedy play.

The highlight of the day was a superb performance by the talented golfer Mishary Al-Zamanan, who scored a brilliant 38 points to win the trophy.  He was closely followed by Scott Dunning, the Runner-up at 37 points, and Mohan Singh, who won the third prize with a score of 36 points. The coveted Best Gross award was won by the young budding talent Ali Al-Ansari, who scored a brilliant 65 points. Moreover, Ali won the prize for Longest Drive (Men’s) as well with a superlative shot. Incidentally, his brother Bader Al-Ansari received the award for Nearest to Pin (Men’s). Both Ali and Bader come from a family of golfers – their father, Mazen Al-Ansar,i is a keen golfer himself. Among other prizes, Fadia Emaadi, who has consistently performed very well in the past tournaments, won the prizes for both Longest Drive and Nearest to Pin in the Ladies’ Category.

The weather was quite pleasant this Friday. Thankfully, the cold weather system that had developed over Kuwait last week had subsided, giving way to ambient temperature and a mild cool breeze, resulting in optimum playing conditions.

Prize distribution was organized in the afternoon in the gracious presence of Mr.Takanori Murase, General Manager, Toyo Tire Corporation, who had specially flown in from Japan for the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kuldeep Lamba, Managing Director, AlMailem Group, thanked Toyo for their long and unwavering commitment to this Tournament over the past many decades. He also thanked the players for their enthusiastic response and complimented the Sahara Club staff for their professional administration of the game.
