CAIRO, Aug 17: Kuwait Basketball Federation National Teams Director and national team delegation Chief Mishal Mohammad has praised the preparations of the Kuwait national basketball team during its ongoing training camp in Cairo, Egypt, ahead of the first window of the Asian Cup qualifiers, which begins in the UAE on August 23.
Mohammad is leading the delegation alongside Assistant Secretary-General Owaid Al-Anzi and board member Mohsen Al-Anzi. Greek coach Vassilios Bratsiakos is in charge of the team after recently being appointed by the federation to oversee the national side during the qualifiers.
Speaking about the camp, Mohammad said the team is holding two training sessions each day, in the morning and evening, under the guidance of Bratsiakos. The new coach, he added, has expressed his satisfaction with the players’ performances so far.
Mohammad also highlighted the team’s encouraging displays during the camp, saying the coaching staff is focused on raising the players’ technical and physical readiness ahead of the Asian qualifiers.
Kuwait opened its series of friendly matches with a 75-72 victory over Egypt’s Olympic team two days ago. The Blue will play several more warm-up games over the coming days before heading to the UAE for the qualifiers.
Kuwait has been drawn alongside the UAE, Oman, Bahrain, and Nepal. The coaching staff is looking to ensure the team reaches peak readiness for the campaign, with the squad featuring a blend of promising young players and experienced veterans.
The Asian Basketball Federation previously announced the qualifying groups for the East and West regions. In the West Region, Group Two features Kazakhstan, Palestine, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Kyrgyzstan.
