WASHINGTON, Oct 25, (Agencies): In a remarkable turn of events, a South Carolina deer hunter came to the rescue when he discovered a missing 2-year-old girl in the woods after hearing her cries, according to authorities.

Sara Alice Grice had last been seen around 3:00 pm local time, having laid down with her mother at their residence just outside Prosperity, as reported by the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office in a Facebook statement.

Around 6:00 pm, a vigilant deer hunter’s keen ears picked up on the child’s cries. Promptly, he dialed Newberry County 911, initiating a tracking process using advanced mapping technology.

The gathered information was then swiftly relayed to a SLED helicopter and a team of first responders, who, in an astonishing turn of events, located the hunters and the young girl in a wooded area nearly a mile from her home.

The parents, Mekayla and Gary, explained that the harrowing incident unfolded when Gary briefly stepped out through the backdoor while their daughter slept. Upon his return, they realized that their precious child was missing, leading them to call 911 for help.

Mekayla, reflecting on the experience, shared, “It was a scary thought because what if someone sees movement and doesn’t realize it’s a child. Instead, we got a great response that [helped find] our baby.”

Sheriff Lee Foster confirmed that the young girl had left the home of her own accord, emphasizing that there were no sinister elements involved in this case. He concluded, “She was simply lost and has been successfully located.”
