KUWAIT CITY, May 16: The Ministry of Education will sign contracts valued at more than KD11 million with companies that won the bidding for providing security guard services in schools in three educational districts – Hawally, Ahmadi and Jahra – after obtaining approval from the regulatory authorities, reports Al- Qabas daily quoting sources from the ministry.

This came after the ministry completed the contracting procedures for providing security guards for schools in Farwaniya and Capital educational districts at a total cost of KD7.4 million for a period of three years. These contracts cover schools for different academic stages – kindergarten, primary, intermediate and secondary – in the aforementioned educational districts. Sources confirmed to the daily that the Ministry of Finance and State Audit Bureau (SAB) have approved the Education Ministry’s request to sign contracts with security and safety companies to provide guards for the schools in Hawally and Ahmadi educational districts, while it is in the process of obtaining approval for the schools in Jahra Educational District.

Sources said SAB has approved contracting with companies that won in the bidding, after getting the approval of the regulatory authorities. Sources disclosed the value of the contracts for schools in Hawally Educational District is KD3.314 million, KD4.748 million for Ahmadi Educational District and KD3.1 million for Jahra Educational District for a period of 36 months. Sources stressed the need for the Education Ministry to strictly follow the rules and regulations in preparing general budgets and final accounts.
