Dr. Rama Al-Safi highlights quality assurance measures for medical labs on World Medical Laboratory Day.

KUWAIT CITY, April 15: In a recent press statement, Dr. Rama Al-Safi, Director of the Medical Laboratory Services Department at the Ministry of Health, emphasized the daily implementation of quality control policies in medical laboratories across all Ministry-affiliated facilities. These measures adhere to international standards and are aimed at ensuring the accuracy and validity of laboratory test results.

Dr. Al-Safi’s remarks were made on Monday during the Ministry’s commemoration of World Medical Laboratory Day, held under the theme “Let us be guardians of the quality of work and patient safety.” The event underscores the crucial role of medical laboratory workers in delivering healthcare by conducting essential tests for disease diagnosis, which in turn informs treatment plans.

Highlighting the Ministry’s commitment to quality assurance, Dr. Al-Safi noted that laboratories participate in external, internationally accredited quality control systems. This involves comparing test results with those from global reference laboratories to maintain consistency and reliability. Laboratory personnel meticulously adhere to quality standards procedures throughout the process, from sample collection and examination to result issuance, all while prioritizing patient safety.

Dr. Al-Safi commended the dedication of medical laboratory workers in both the public and private sectors, recognizing their efforts in patient care and continuous improvement of laboratory services to streamline the treatment process.

The celebration of World Medical Laboratory Day is being held at the Avenues Mall, with activities scheduled until ten o’clock in the evening. The event aims to raise public awareness of health services offered by medical laboratories, address inquiries from the community, and provide on-site diabetes tests.

The designation of April 15 as International Day for Medical Laboratories by the General Assembly of the International Federation for Biomedical Laboratory Sciences in 1996 serves to globally acknowledge the indispensable role of medical laboratories in disease diagnosis.
