KUWAIT CITY, Feb 4: Dr. Tariq Al-Jalahma, Minister of State for Youth and Sports, began his tenure immediately after taking the oath before His Highness the Amir, starting with field visits to key sports federations rather than formal receptions. This proactive approach opens direct communication with club and federation officials, allowing a clear understanding of the real situation beyond office reports.
During these visits, the minister can assess the actual needs of each sports body, including funding, facilities, budgets, and organization, while discussing challenges, highlighting achievements, and planning improvements for local tournaments and international competitions for national teams and clubs.
Dr. Al-Jalahma’s initiative is being hailed as a “strong start”, reflecting his commitment to direct engagement with officials and supporting the development of sports in Kuwait.
The minister’s visits began with the Football Federation, followed by the Handball Federation, where he praised their outstanding organization of the 22nd Asian Championship. Kuwait’s national handball team secured the bronze medal and qualified for the World Cup finals for the 10th time. He commended the professionalism and effort demonstrated by the federation, noting that it showcases the capabilities of national sports staff in hosting major tournaments successfully.
Dr. Al-Jalahma also visited the Volleyball Federation at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex, reviewing recent developments and preparations. He inspected the hall set up to host the West Asia Club Volleyball Championship, organized by Kuwait Club, which kicked off yesterday.
