Minister charts ambitious plans for Kuwaiti sports development

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 22: Minister Daoud Marafi, holding the portfolios for National Assembly Affairs, Youth Affairs, and Communications Affairs, underscored a commitment to advancing the sports movement in the forthcoming period. Emphasizing the sponsorship and support of sports youth by meeting their requirements, he highlighted adherence to the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad. The objective is to ensure the impartial implementation of laws and hold accountable those found negligent. Marafi conveyed these sentiments during a visit to the General Sports Authority, where he engaged with the Director General, his deputies, and members of an investigation committee formed by ministerial decision to examine violations within the Authority.

In a press release issued by the General Sports Authority, Marafi revealed that discussions covered various issues, including decisions to cancel advertising for certain sports clubs. The Minister of State for Youth Affairs stated, “I listened to the officials of the Authority and members of the investigation committee, and all the legal justifications for these decisions were stated.”

He added that individuals affected by these decisions have the right to appeal in accordance with regulating laws. Marafi affirmed his role as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Sports Authority, overseeing the submission of grievances through legal channels. He assured a thorough and transparent examination of appeals, with restoration of rights if any decisions are found to be in violation.

Minister Marafi commended the dedication of the Director General of the Authority, Youssef Abdullah Al-Baidan, and his deputies in supporting sports youth and facilitating sports activities. He stressed the significance of digital transformation in streamlining transactions between the Authority, government agencies, and sports bodies. Marafi also emphasized the necessity of developing the sports movement, enhancing control measures, and providing facilities to encourage investment in compliance with legal provisions.

Youssef Al-Baidan, the Director General, briefed Minister Marafi on the achievements attained during his tenure, including the success of national teams and Kuwaiti champions who secured medals at the Asian level. Al-Baidan highlighted increased financial support for champions following amendments to regulations.
