KARACHI, Jun 27 At least three paramilitary personnel and several militants were killed on Saturday after heavily armed attackers launched an assault on a security compound in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi, police said.
The attack began when a suspected suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the entrance of a compound belonging to the paramilitary Rangers force in Karachi’s eastern district, triggering a powerful blast.
Following the explosion, a group of five to six militants stormed the facility, leading to an intense gun battle with security forces.
Sindh Police Chief Javed Alam Odho said initial reports confirmed the deaths of three Rangers personnel, while at least three suspected militants were also killed during the clash.
A police source told Anadolu that four attackers had been eliminated as security forces continued efforts to neutralize any remaining militants inside the compound.
No militant group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. Security agencies have launched an investigation into the assault.
