Mexico seeks greater access to Kuwait’s lucrative market

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 19: Eduardo Patricio Peña Haller, Ambassador of the United Mexican States to Kuwait, affirmed that Mexican-Kuwaiti relations are built on solid foundations of mutual respect, friendship and a shared commitment to enhancing cooperation. Haller said his country aspires to deepen political dialogue, expand economic, trade, cultural and educational ties, and open new avenues for cooperation, including in the sports sector. He made the statement in a ceremony organized by the Mexican Embassy on Saturday, marking the 216th Independence Day of Mexico. Present at the event were Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs and Minister Plenipotentiary Nawaf Al-Ahmad, along with government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and the Mexican community. Haller stated that Mexico’s population currently stands at 133 million.

He said his country ranks 13th among the world’s largest economies, 10th globally in goods exports, and fifth in agricultural and food product exports. “Furthermore, according to the World Trade Organization, Mexico is the world’s leading exporter of fruits and vegetables,” he added. He explained that the occasion serves as an opportunity not only to commemorate the independence and showcase the history, heritage, culture and traditions of Mexico, but also to reflect on the trajectory of relations between the two nations and look toward future prospects. He stated that Mexico and Kuwait established diplomatic relations in 1975, and that ties have since evolved through political dialogue and cooperation in the economic, trade, cultural and educational fields, alongside growing bonds between the two peoples. He underscored the importance of continuing to develop the economic partnership, indicating that, according to the latest official Mexican trade data, Mexico’s exports to Kuwait have reached about $51 million so far in 2026.

He added that the exports included cargo vehicles, automotive spare parts, air and vacuum pumps, iron and steel pipes and tubes, and various agricultural products, reflecting the ability of Mexican companies to effectively participate in the Kuwaiti market. He emphasized that while the figures are encouraging, they also demonstrate that the economic and trade potential between the two nations is far greater. He said Mexico is one of North America’s leading exporters, with globally competitive industries in automotive manufacturing, spare parts, aerospace, computing and data processing, beverages, medical devices, electronics and food products. He added that Kuwait offers significant opportunities for Mexican companies and investors, as it advances its development and economic diversification plans. He called for increased trade volumes, greater investment promotion, and stronger ties between the business communities of both countries.

He pointed out that Mexico and Kuwait have signed more than 25 agreements. He said the embassy is actively working to foster scientific, technical and cultural cooperation, enabling universities and research centers to encourage Kuwaiti and Mexican youths to participate in collaborative projects. He stated that these projects help strengthen bonds between the two societies, especially at a time when technological advancement serves as the cornerstone for enhancing competitiveness and achieving development. He expressed his pleasure at meeting young people from both countries and building friendships that will support relations for future generations. He emphasized that Mexico attaches great importance to its relations with Kuwait and to the friendship cemented over decades, noting that the Independence Day celebration also marks the Mexican-Kuwaiti friendship and a shared commitment to build a stronger alliance
