The event was attended by Assistant Foreign Minister for American Affairs, Minister Plenipotentiary Nawaf Abdullatif Al-Ahmad, and a group of heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organizations in Kuwait. The ambassador noted the cooperation in the diplomatic, academic, and cultural fields, expressing pride in the “remarkable growth” in trade and investment, and his aspiration to expand the scope of cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, education, and tourism, as “our two friendly countries can exchange experiences and expertise for the benefit of both parties.” The ambassador praised Kuwait’s role in promoting a policy of dialogue and the search for peaceful solutions to global challenges, stressing that his country shares the same approach.

Speech of H.E. Eduardo Patricia Peña Haller Ambassador of Mexico to Kuwait
On the occasion of celebrating the 215th Anniversary of the Independence Day of Mexico
Excellency Minister Nawaf Abdul Latif Al-Ahmad, Assistant Foreign Minister for the Americas Affairs, Distinguished members of the Kuwaiti Government, Colleagues of the Diplomatic Corps, Members of the Mexican community
It is a great honor to welcome you this evening as we celebrate Mexico’s National Day. Each year, on the 16th of September, Mexicans across the world gather to commemorate our independence, our shared history, and our enduring values of freedom, dignity, and solidarity.
This year is especially meaningful for us, as 2025 marks the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mexico and the State of Kuwait. Half a century ago, our two nations formally began a journey of friendship and cooperation—one that has only grown stronger with time.
Over these fifty years, Mexico and Kuwait have built a relationship founded on mutual respect, cultural understanding, and a common commitment to peace and development. Our ties have expanded across many fields: from political dialogue, economic exchange, to academic cooperation and cultural diplomacy. We are proud to note that trade and investment between our countries continues to grow, and that people-to-people connections are deepening, enriching both of our societies.
Kuwait has consistently played a constructive role in international affairs, and Mexico is proud to stand alongside Kuwait in promoting dialogue, multilateralism, and the search for peaceful solutions to global challenges. In this spirit, we look forward to expanding our cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, education, tourism, and innovation—fields where both our nations have much to share and to learn.
But beyond the statistics and official agreements, what truly defines the strength of our relationship is the warmth of our people. The generosity and hospitality of Kuwaitis remind us of the values we hold dear in Mexico: respect for community, family, and friendship.
Tonight’s celebration is not only a tribute to Mexico’s national day, but also to 50 years of friendship between Mexico and Kuwait. It is an opportunity to honor the past, celebrate the present, and look with optimism toward the future of our partnership.
Before I conclude, allow me to extend my sincere gratitude to His Highness Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, His Excellency Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Yahya, the Government of Kuwait and the people of this beautiful country for their continued friendship and support.
Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,
To the prosperity of Mexico and Kuwait, to the enduring friendship between both countries, and to a future of peace and cooperation for all nations.
Thank you,
