Kuwait aims to modernize power and water plants with skilled technical teams.
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 14: The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy is participating in the implementation of 15 projects under the 2025/2026 Development Plan – 11 percent of the total 134 projects in 42 government agencies. Sources from the ministry affirmed that these projects will greatly contribute to the ongoing efforts to realize the objectives of the abovementioned development plan.
Sources said the important projects include the supply and installation works for the fourth phase of the Subiya Power Plant project with a capacity of 900 megawatts. Sources explained this is included in program for the activation of the private sector in a bid to make Kuwait an attractive investment environment through the creation of a competitive business climate based on innovation and advanced technology.
Sources stated that the ministry is involved in two other projects -- digital transformation and the smart metering system. Sources pointed out these projects are part of the program to develop a connected and transparent government with the aim of restructuring the government system, enhance integrity and transparency, and improve performance to meet the needs of citizens.
Sources also confirmed the involvement of the ministry in seven projects under the Cohesive Infrastructure Construction Program as follows:
- Convert the second phase of the gas turbines project at Subiya Power Plant to combined cycle generating 250 megawatts,
- Supply 400-volt overhead lines to Khairan, Wafra and Sulaibiya power plants,
- Install 300-volt underground cables in Sabah Medical District,
- Construct Nuwaiseeb Power Plant with a capacity of 3,600 megawatts ( first phase),
- Install 400-volt overhead line linking the Nuwaiseeb Power Plant to the Shagaya Solar Power Plant,
- Two projects for the supply of fiber optic cables for the main transformer stations.
Sources stressed that these projects support the provision of an advanced network, in line with the national vision to transform the country into a financial and commercial hub. Sources stated that the ministry is implementing two environmental projects within the program to create a harmonious living environment -- second phase of the Doha Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant, and the supply of 30 mobile reverse osmosis units with a total capacity of 100,000 imperial gallons per day to conserve natural resources and reduce pollution.
Sources added the ministry is also participating in two health projects under the Promoting Health and Well-being for All Program. These projects include the supply of medium-pressure equipment (11 kV) to the new Sabah Hospital and the new Cancer Hospital. Sources said these projects support efforts to develop health services according to the highest international standards, promote public health and healthy cities, and build national capacity.
Following are the 15 projects:
- Phase Four of the Subiya Power Plant project (900 megawatts)
- Digital transformation

- Gas turbine conversion at Subiya Power Plant (Phase Two)
