KUWAIT CITY, Jan 13: The Commercial Control Department of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has shut down a meat factory for engaging in the deceptive practice of thawing frozen meat and selling it as fresh and falsifying expiry dates, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

According to sources, the factory was marketing its product through social media platforms to restaurants and individual customers.

The Commercial Control Department inspectors, posing as customers, successfully identified and verified the fraudulent activities and after visiting the factory warehouse, inspectors found meat that had been thawed, cut, placed in plastic containers and neatly stacked in refrigerators.

Additionally, the meat’s origin had been falsified, along with the unjustifiable extension of the product’s expiry dates. The meat was being sold at prices equivalent to fresh produce.

Simultaneously, the Commercial Control Department also closed a restaurant in Salmiya for thawing frozen meat and selling it to customers as fresh. Furthermore, expired food ingredients used in food preparation were confiscated.
