KUWAIT CITY, June 4: Residents of 3 governorates – Hawalli, Farwaniya and Ahmadi — suffer from a meat crisis as a result of the total ban imposed on 5 areas — Farwaniya, Hawalli, Mahboula, Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, and Khaitan, because workers living in these areas are prevented from leaving their homes to attend work at their respective meat stores in response to instructions issued by the concerned authorities and the lack of permits.

Some stores and saw some meat shops were closed, while others had nothing or very little to sell. Bu Ali who has a meat shop in Salmiya explained that his colleagues who live in Hawalli could not leave their homes and he cannot work alone in the place which requires 4 workers.

This is in addition to the lack of meat supplied by companies. The CEO and marketing manager of local products at Al-Mawashi Meat Company Abd Al- Hadi Boland said the company has 35 branches and sell approximately 5,000 carcasses per day, of which two thousand are fresh carcasses and the rest are frozen, chilled and processed meat supplied to cooperative societies and meat stores.

Boland pointed out that the company’s branches are spread over all the governorates and some of them were closed due to restrictions on movement imposed by the authorities to fight the corona virus.
