LOS ANGELES, Sept 28, (Agencies): Matty Healy delivered a surprising announcement during a tour stop in Sacramento, California. The 1975 is embarking on an "indefinite hiatus" following the conclusion of their current tour.

The North American leg of their tour commenced on a Tuesday night at the Golden 1 Center. Healy's announcement sent a collective gasp rippling through the audience. In video footage captured at the concert and subsequently shared on social media, Healy appears with his white dress shirt fully unbuttoned, cradling a guitar, and rubbing his face as he shares the news.

Healy expressed his deep appreciation for the fans, saying, "We love coming to this place and playing for you guys whenever we have the chance, and it's wonderful you're all here." He went on to drop the bombshell: "After this tour, we will be going on an indefinite hiatus of shows, so it's wonderful to have you guys with us tonight."

The specifics of the band's hiatus remain unclear. It's uncertain whether this hiatus pertains solely to live performances or if they intend to take a complete break. Historically, The 1975 has referred to breaks following album cycles as "hiatuses."

Nonetheless, The 1975 still has 36 scheduled dates remaining on their North American tour leg, culminating on December 2 at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington. Following this, they are set to launch their European leg in February 2024, starting in Scotland.

The past year has been quite eventful for The 1975, particularly for their frontman. Matty Healy had a brief romance with Taylor Swift before their split in June. This whirlwind romance came after Swift's breakup with British actor Joe Alwyn in April, following six years of dating.
