KUWAIT CITY, July 6: The General Administration of Customs at Shuwaikh Port has successfully intercepted a major shipment of banned tobacco products arriving from an Asian country. The illicit cargo was concealed within two 40-foot shipping containers and flagged during routine inspection procedures.
Customs inspectors grew suspicious of the shipment during standard checks and promptly initiated further inspection protocols. Samples were taken from the containers and sent to the competent authorities for thorough examination and laboratory analysis.
The results revealed a significant quantity of prohibited tobacco products—specifically, 581,000 bags weighing a total of 29,050 tons. Authorities have confirmed that the shipment was in clear violation of import regulations, as the type of tobacco it contained is banned in Kuwait.
The General Administration of Customs reiterated its commitment to protecting society from harmful and illegal goods. It praised the vigilance and professionalism of its inspection teams, emphasizing their preparedness to thwart all forms of smuggling and ensure the integrity of Kuwait’s borders.
