SHIMLA, Jun 19: A major landslide struck the Dhalli-Sanjauli Bypass in Shimla on Thursday, bringing traffic movement to a halt after a large amount of debris fell onto the road.
No casualties or injuries were reported, but the incident caused significant disruption as police, district administration officials, and teams from the Public Works Department rushed to the site to clear the debris. Heavy machinery was deployed, and the road was later opened for one-way traffic.
Authorities diverted vehicles through alternative routes and advised commuters to avoid the bypass temporarily while restoration work continued. Police personnel were deployed to manage traffic flow and monitor the situation.
Shimla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Singh said debris removal operations were underway and that authorities were working to restore normal traffic movement in both directions as soon as possible.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Shimla (Rural) Manjeet Sharma said the landslide occurred near a residential building, placing the structure at risk. Buildings considered vulnerable were evacuated, while officials assessed the extent of damage and the number of affected properties.
Authorities continue to monitor the area amid concerns over further landslide risks during ongoing restoration efforts.
